**Certified Surgical Technologist Job Summary**
The Certified Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing surgical procedures by selecting supplies, instruments and equipment, performing surgical counts, maintaining sterile techniques, assisting surgeons, and decontaminating clinical equipment. **Job Functions**
Procedure Preparation:
- Selects supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures using preference lists.
- Performs sponge needle and instrument counts with RN circulator as specified by policy and procedure of the hospital.
Sterile Technique: Maintains sterility of operating field and controls any contamination of that field.
Surgeons Assistant: Assists surgeon by performing nurse-supervised duties such as handing instruments, sponges, sutures, catheters, dressings as needed.
Clinical Equipment: Decontaminates, cleans, and sterilizes instruments for re-use according to hospital policy and procedure.
Maintains Performance: Attends required in-services, annual review, and competency education programs.
Daily Assignments: Completes assignments including restocking of supplies and turnaround of room for next use.
**Qualifications**
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required. Associate's Degree from an accredited school of operating room Technician or 5 years OR experience is also required. Surgical Tech certification from an Accredited program within 1 Year is required.
Three to six months of orientation/training depending on experience is required. One to three years of work experience is preferred. Competent to provide care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients is required. Good communication skills and a positive caring attitude toward customers and co-workers are essential.
