This position is subject to a funded budget based on staffing needs. Specific assignment is subject to change .
JOB GOAL :
Under the direct supervision of a licensed teacher or administrator, the Special Programs Assistant III will provide support to students in our English Language Development (ELD) program in the students' native tongue (Spanish). Positions may be contingent upon available federal funding, and needs of given student(s).
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS :
Positions assigned to the Special Programs Assistant III classification are distinguished by the responsibility to provide, under teacher supervision, direct instruction and support to students who are English Language Learners, and assist with the development of teaching materials.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS :
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability needed for the position.
- High School Diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of Education
- 18 years of age or older
- Pass a District-approved language assessment (speak, read, write) in the language spoken by the majority of students with whom the Special Programs Assistant works.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents and staff
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of students and their records
- Ability to supervise individual student or groups of students in an instructional setting without constant teacher oversight; work in a team situation
- Demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for students
- Ability to work harmoniously with school age children and / or exceptional students of all ages and abilities
- Ability to explain and present ideas, orally and in writing, to others in a clear manner
- Ability to operate instructional equipment
- Ability to perform routine record keeping tasks
- Knowledge of business English, spelling, math, office practices and procedures, and computer skills
- Ability to direct and respond appropriately to students
- Such alternatives to the above requirements as the School Board or Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable
