Director of Payroll - North Shore Health Location : Downtown Milwaukee, WI inside the trendy HUB640 buildingJob Overview The Director of Payroll’s responsibilities include leading the administration and operational effectiveness of the payroll function in a multi-state environment. In this role, the Director of Payroll will manage the payroll processes and procedures including taxes, payments, and working closely with accounting for coding and reconciliation activities. The Director of Payroll is expected to design short and long-term strategies for continuous improvement while adhering to payment deadlines, responding to inquiries, checking for accuracy of payments and accruals, and ensuring the integrity and timeliness of the payroll process.Essential Duties and Responsibilities Our employees are tasked with delivering excellent business results through the efforts of their teams. These results are achieved by : Leading the Payroll Analyst in the regular completion of the payroll process for all Buildings and the Support Center.Leading the payroll function with an eye for continuous improvement and making recommendations as needed to ensure process improvements.Performing payroll audits to validate payroll accuracy and making any necessary adjustments with the goal of error-free payroll.Working closely with the Accounting team regarding coding and reconciliation discrepancies and researching questions as needed.Continuously reviewing and participating in continuing education to ensure compliance with company policies and federal, state, and local government regulations and reporting requirements.Managing all tax filings and tax jurisdiction questions with the third-party payroll processor along with keeping a database of all registrations and tax IDs.Working with other departments and IT as necessary to manage the implementation and maintenance of payroll and payroll-related systems, including integrations with other systems.Providing expert advice and counsel on payroll-related matters throughout the company.Preparing payroll-related reports as requested by management.Coordinating year-end W-2 processing, ensuring accurate and complete W-2 / W-2c forms.Creating training and development documentation to improve the payroll process.Setting up user security and training employees and managers on the self-service tools and application.Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.CPP certification preferred.Minimum 5 years of progressive payroll experience.Experience with Smartlinx HRIS / HRMS platform preferred.Understanding of payroll best practices, payroll regulations, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive human resources and payroll information.Excellent written and verbal communication, service, and resolution skills.Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices) : Walking, reaching, bending, fine hand coordination, ability to read and write, ability to communicate with personnel; ability to remain calm under stress.Code of Conduct Must adhere to the Company’s Code of Conduct and Business Ethics policy including documentation and reporting responsibilities.Other Duties Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
