POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the supervision of all functions necessary for the day to day operating of the Ultrasound Department. Must be able to perform all duties of a staff ultra sonographer.
Works with department Director to assure appropriate customer care.
Under general supervision performs Non-Invasive Vascular Sonographic procedures in accordance with department protocols. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Adheres to the North Shore Medical Center Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Develops and maintains a patient flow pattern to assure the completion of examinations ordered throughout all shifts. Coordinates the schedule of patients determining the proper sequence of procedures for maximum efficiency and patient care.
Supervises the consistent delivery of high-quality imaging procedures by the Ultrasound personnel.
Consistently obtains the highest quality scans possible in relation to patient body habitus and / or NPO prep status as observed by Radiologists, Ultrasound Trainer, and Ultrasound Supervisor. Always follows proper exam protocols as outlined in department Policy and Procedure manual. Utilizes two patient identifiers to confirm patient / exam accuracy before administering exam.
Reviews all images on Ultrasound machine and PACS and thoroughly fills out worksheet in a timely manner. Is open to critique of exams by Radiologist and / or department Supervisor.
Utilizes computer system to update exam status an update orders as needed. Ensures charges match procedure completed. Confirms proper exam / patient assignment at QC before releasing images to PACS for interpretation. Effective knowledge of all information systems used in the Vascular department.
Performs a full range of Ultrasound procedures and operates all equipment in assigned department. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills for age-specific factors necessary to perform safe and effective procedures on patients of all ages (neonate / infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatrics). The knowledge and skills are acquired through formal training in an Ultrasound school, in-service, continuing education and / or experience. Demonstrates a willingness to learn / adapt to new technologies and protocols and help develop the knowledge and competency of coworkers and students.
Assists with data collection for process improvement initiatives while understanding the department performance trends and established standards. Contributes toward process improvement by serving on process improvement teams as assigned. Participates in department employee engagement and patient satisfaction initiatives. Utilizes patient service recovery resources when appropriate.
Attends department meetings consistently and promotes positive dialogue with respect to department objectives. Listens and is responsible to understand all agenda items. Attends all other meetings as required.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
Will work the assigned unit based on his / her orientation, competencies, and patient needs.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :
ARDMS Preferred
Current BLS
Minimum one year experience preferred
Abdominal Doppler, Peripheral Vascular, Extracranial and Transcranial Doppler, PVR, Ankle Brachial Index, and Interventional Vascular Sonographic Procedures
Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of various diverse backgrounds
