What are the responsibilities and job description for the Flight Paramedic - Rotational position at North Slope Borough?
Acts as primary air crewmember on fixed wing and helicopter critical care medical evacuation and search and rescue flights. Responds to emergencies and performs duties related to fire suppression, rescue and emergency care during air and ground ambulance transport and other tasks as appropriate and in accordance with level of training. Assists with emergency training and maintains equipment and supplies for the department. This position is a regular member of the North Slope Borough Fire Department and is authorized to act under Alaska Statute 18.70 and subject to the provisions of the FLSA 207(k) rule.The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Serves as primary air crewmember on medevac and SAR missions.
Coordinate and provide advanced emergency care of patients during air and/or ground transport.
Operate emergency life support tools and equipment.
Maintain required licensure, certifications, skills and physical ability to perform job requirements as determined by job description and department SOP/SOG.
Provide mentorship, emergency or other departmental related training as assigned.
May be required to travel to the villages.
Provide data entry, filing and maintenance of emergency response records as assigned.
Assist in developing training materials and programs as assigned.
Maintain inventory, cleanliness and readiness of aircraft, response vehicles, equipment, facilities and supplies, or other tasks necessary for operational readiness as assigned.
Completion of department approved continuing education and clinical competency program.
Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge or NSB Fire Department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of current pre-hospital care practices. Knowledge of emergency services techniques, procedures, related safety and legal issues.
Knowledge of fire ground operations and safety. Ability to accurately assess and treat patients during both ground and air responses.
Knowledge of current flight and critical care practices
Knowledge of search and rescue, wilderness medical and survival techniques and practices
Ability to help carry patients in excess of 250 lbs, lift up to 70 lbs to chest height, and walk moderate distances through snow and uneven terrain. High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
Current paramedic licensure or certification as a paramedic;
Current CPR credential that meets the requirements for Alaska licensure;
Two years of pre-hospital emergency medical work experience;
Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C) preferred
Ability to obtain State of Alaska Paramedic licensure within 45 days of hire;
Ability to obtain a State of Alaska Medevac Escort certification within six months of hire;
Ability to obtain State of Alaska Basic Firefighter, Rural Firefighter or Driver/Operator certification within one year of hire;
Ability to obtain a Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough Insurance criteria within thirty days of hire.
May be required to complete post-hire medical/physical evaluation and probationary process.
