What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUBSTITUTE - Flight Paramedic position at North Slope Borough?
Responds to emergencies and performs duties related to fire suppression, rescue and emergency care during air and ground ambulance transport and other tasks as appropriate and in accordance with level of training. Assists with emergency training and maintains equipment and supplies for the department. This position is a regular member of the North Slope Borough Fire Department and is authorized to act under Alaska Statute 18.70The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Responds to emergencies and performs fire suppression, rescue and emergency care as assigned.
Serve as advanced medevac specialist and as ambulance crewmember.
Coordinate and provide advanced emergency care of patients during air and/or ground transport.
Provide medical oversight of other responders on medevacs.
Operate emergency life support tools and equipment.
Maintain required licensure, certifications, skills and physical ability to perform job.
Provide emergency or other departmental related training as assigned.
May be required to travel to the villages.
Provide data entry, filing and maintenance of emergency response records as assigned.
Assist in developing training materials and programs as assigned.
Maintain inventory and readiness of response vehicles, equipment, facilities and supplies.
Assist in fire prevention, inspection and other risk reduction activities as assigned.
Assist in the cleaning and general upkeep of department facilities and equipment, including hose and apparatus testing or other tasks necessary for operational readiness as assigned.
Provide positive mentorship of other medical providers.
Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge or NSB Fire Department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of current pre-hospital care practices.
Knowledge of emergency services techniques, procedures, related safety and legal issues.
Knowledge of fire ground operations and safety.
Ability to accurately assess and treat patients during both ground and air responses.High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
Current paramedic licensure or certification as a paramedic;
Current CPR credential that meets the requirements for Alaska licensure;
Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (or equivalent) credential;
Two years of pre-hospital emergency medical work experience;
Ability to obtain State of Alaska Paramedic licensure within 45 days of hire;
Ability to obtain a State of Alaska Medevac Escort certification within six months of hire;
Ability to obtain State of Alaska Basic Firefighter or Firefighter I certification within one year of hire;
Ability to obtain an Alaska Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough Insurance criteria within thirty days of hire.
