Summary or Purpose
Translate results from our Department of Wildlife Management scientific studies into common language reports, to provide to the residents of the North Slope. Recruit individuals to assist with projects. Develop educational material, to include traditional values and knowledge, related to conservation and wise use of resources within the NPRA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Turn scientific papers into 'plain language' reports and posters to be distributed to local communities, schools, and North Slope residents.
Assist Wildlife Biologists, Research Biologist, and Subsistence Research Coordinators with various studies, field and lab work, and surveys to ensure the candidate maintains a good working knowledge of the activities they will ultimately report to the public.
Prepare and edit publications, technical documents, newsletters, and educational displays.
Respond to requests for information from North Slope residents, the Alaska Eskimo Whaling Committee , and NSB Fish and Game Management Committee.
Study the objectives, promotional policies and needs of organizations to develop public relation strategies that will promote science education to the public.
Give oral presentations on various Department of Wildlife Management activities and oil and gas activities within the NSB school system and to the public at large.
Attend and represent the NSB at scientific and educational meetings and conferences as directed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of Department of Wildlife Management research and monitoring projects, and goals.
Knowledge of Arctic wildlife, habitat, environmental issues, geography, and subsistence harvest activities.
Knowledge and understanding of general biology, chemistry, genetics, and plant-, vertebrate-, and fish-identification.
Knowledge of the education system.
Ability to interpret technical information and to summarize that information into plain language.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required
Associate's degree in Science or Education as a science teacher;
Two years experience working and living in the arctic or sub arctic;
Two years work experience in science, education, or communication related field; and
Valid Alaska driver's license that meets North Slope Borough Insurance criteria.
