Overview:
The Statewide Community Engagement Coordinator will lead efforts to connect with diverse communities across Connecticut’s 32 alliance districts, focusing on districts surrounding North Star Fellowship community centers. This position is part of the North Star Fellowship, a collaborative initiative between LEAD and The Mind Trust, aimed at advancing high-quality charter schools and expanding educational opportunities statewide.
LEAD, as the advocacy arm of the North Star Fellowship, works to engage communities and amplify voices in support of educational equity. The coordinator will play a critical role in growing LEAD’s database of supporters, enhancing outreach efforts, and fostering relationships that drive the fellowship’s mission forward.
This position requires close collaboration with The Mind Trust team to support fellows in their journey of establishing charter schools, alongside active community engagement to promote awareness and advocacy. The ideal candidate is skilled in community organizing, data-driven advocacy, and project management.
Key Responsibilities:Fellowship Support:
- Build relationships and networks to advocate for and support new charter schools in partnership with LEAD and The Mind Trust.
- Connect fellows with decision-makers, community stakeholders, and potential board members.
- Strengthen relationships with local and state elected officials to promote charter-friendly policies.
- Support enrollment and engagement efforts for new schools by sharing information, making connections, and fostering collaboration.
- Organize parents, families, and community champions to advocate for new schools..
- Data Collection and Community Feedback: Design and administer surveys to capture community needs and feedback, and aggregate the data to inform outreach strategies and the alignment of school models with local needs.
- Outreach Technology Integration: Use digital tools and platforms (e.g., CRM systems, and survey platforms) to track community engagement, manage contact records, and ensure efficient follow-ups.
- AI and Collaboration Tool Usage: Leverage AI tools and collaboration platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Slack, or Trello) to streamline outreach efforts, analyze engagement trends, and enhance team communication
- Gather letters of support and petition signatures to enhance fellowship initiatives.
Community Engagement:
- Develop and implement engagement strategies tailored to local communities, focusing on Black, Latino, and Puerto Rican populations in Connecticut’s alliance districts.
- Expand LEAD’s database of supporters by building connections with individuals, organizations, and community leaders.
- Event Organization and Coordination: Plan and execute forums, town halls, and stakeholder meetings, handling logistics, communications, and follow-ups to ensure impactful engagement.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the North Star Fellowship, LEAD, and community groups.
- Community Engagement Documentation: Maintain detailed records of contacts, resources, and outcomes to provide transparency and facilitate ongoing collaboration.
Marketing and Communication:
- Collaborate with the LEAD team to design and implement marketing campaigns that grow the organization’s support base and advocacy reach.
- Utilize social media and digital tools to connect with diverse communities and amplify the North Star Fellowship’s mission.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in community organizing, project management, and/or advocacy, preferably in education or a related field.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with tools such as Google Workspace, survey software (e.g., Google Forms or SurveyMonkey), and data management platforms (e.g., Excel or comparable systems).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse groups.
- AI Fluency: Familiarity with AI-powered solutions (e.g., ChatGPT or similar) to enhance workflows, communication, and strategic planning.
- Experience managing databases and creating detailed engagement records.
- Passion for educational equity and reform, with a commitment to empowering underserved communities.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in complex stakeholder environments.
- Project Management Skills: Proven ability to plan, manage, and execute projects or events with multiple stakeholders, balancing priorities effectively.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
