Overview
The Model Risk Management Program Coordinator supports the ongoing initiatives and objectives of the Model Risk Management (“MRM”) program including facilitation of identifying model-related risks throughout the organization, reporting on such risks, and monitoring mitigation efforts. This position is a critical team member of Corporate Risk Management which is overseen by the Chief Risk Officer (“CRO”). The MRM Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Enterprise Risk Management (“ERM”) and meets independently on a periodic basis with the Audit & Risk Committee (or, as applicable, the Directors’ Risk Committee).

Responsibilities
- Oversee the current Model Risk Management (“MRM”) program inclusive of all related policies, framework, procedures, committee, and charter!
- Collaborate with senior Corporate Risk Management (“CRM”) leadership to grow the MRM program.
- Ensure an accurate and complete model/ tool inventory through maintaining stakeholder relationships and active monitoring across the company.
- Ensure appropriately scoped and timely validations commensurate with the risks presented by each model.
- Conduct or facilitate periodic model reviews.
- Chair the MRM Committee (“MRMC”), a management-level committee.
- Compile and analyze model-related data and prepare concise, easily understood reports for presentation at MRMC, Enterprise Risk Management Committee, and/ or Directors’ Risk Committee; directly presents periodic reporting and updates to said Committees, including independent meetings with director-level committee on a periodic basis.
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (“SME”) on model risk management at all levels of the company.
- Facilitate MRM-related discussions with Internal Audit and external federal examiners.
- Leverage existing risk assessments to identify new, recurring, and aggregate model risk and recommend changes to minimize said risk.
- Participate in special assignments assigned by either the Director of ERM or the CRO.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or other field with a Business or Analytical focus. Significant relevant experience may be considered in addition to other education.
- A minimum of seven (7) years’ related industry experience in process analysis, reporting, project management, risk management or audit, compliance, operational analysis, or related bank experience. Financial institution model (e.g., ALM, AML, etc.) ownership may be substituted for the above experience.
- Previous experience working in model risk management for financial institutions or highly regulated industry is preferred.
- Excellent reading, writing, verbal, and listening skills as a SME.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as policies, laws, regulations, and other complex documents as well as apply them to Tompkins.
- Ability to write moderately complex reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before small and large groups of employees.
- Ability to apply logic and reasoning to variable data of moderate complexity and to modify, translate, and summarize such data for analysis by others.
- Ability to act proactively and independently.
- Computer proficiency, specifically in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Comfort in escalating MRM concerns to Director of ERM or CRO
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization.
