Staff Accountant

Job Description

Summary:Manages and implements various accounting procedures in compliance with hospital policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations. Participates in the department’s performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.

Requirements

• Perform the day to day processing of accounts payable transactions to ensure that municipal finances are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner.
  • Post business transactions, process invoices, and verify financial data for use in maintaining accounts payable records
  • Maintain meticulous records of outstanding payables
  • Ensure the accuracy of the organization’s financial documents for payment and auditing purposes
  • Verify invoices against purchase orders and ensure goods or services were received before issuing payment to vendor
  • Prepare monthly account analysis and reconciliations in a timely manner to ensure high quality financial statements.
  • Perform month end close responsibilities including the timely and accurately preparation and posting of monthly journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
• Provide administrative support in order to ensure effective and efficient office operations
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of all financial and employee files
  • Maintain an electronic filing system for all financial documents
• Perform other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors of Science Degree in accounting
• Minimum of three years experience in accounting, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Supervisory experience preferred
• Experience in preparation of journal entries, coding invoices, closing books at month end, and setting up new accounts
• Knowledge of billing, collections and insurance claims.
• Must have knowledge and experience of tax information for the hospital, (W2, 1099, payroll taxes.)
