What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN, Certified Nurse Midwife (NonExempt) position at North Texas Medical Center?
APRN / Nurse Midwife who will independently manage primary health screening, health promotion, and the care of women, from adolescence throughout the lifespan, using the midwifery management process.
Essential Job Functions
- Assessing the women’s physical, mental, and social health.
- Making screening and immunization recommendations to promote health and detect and prevent disease.
- Implementing management strategies and therapeutics as to facilitate the woman’s health and promote healthy behaviors.
- Responsible for gathering and recording data concerning patients to assist physicians in making diagnoses, reaching decisions and instituting care plans, including taking patient histories and performing physicals.
- Assist with patient follow-up care, including checking, recording and reporting patient progress according to protocols established by supervising physicians
- Initiate or change orders within the parameters established by supervising physicians and as permitted by law
- Order tests appropriate under standing orders or office protocols
- Administer, provide and carry out prescription and non-prescription drug orders as authorized by the supervising physician through direct communication, physician’s orders, standing medical orders or protocols, standing delegation orders and all other orders & protocols as defined by the Texas Medical Board and / or Texas Board of Nursing.
- Issue non-prescription medications
- Administer immunization vaccines
- Perform other tasks that do not require the exercise of independent medical judgment, which supervising physician(s) determine are within the ability and competence of the physician’s assistant / nurse practitioners’ ability & competence and in keeping with sound medical practice.
- Ensures that documentation meets current standards and clinic / hospital policies
- Maintain accurate patient medical records. File new patient documents, physician notes, and reports according to clinic policy
BASIC SKILLS
Basic computer knowledge (experience w / Word / Excel etc or the willingness to learn) and ability to touch type.
Experience with information systems or the willingness to learn.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Registered Nurse in the state of Texas
APRN / Nurse Midwife license in the state of Texas
Current BLS certification
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Spanish speaker is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
