What are the responsibilities and job description for the PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT (PI) ENGINEER-QUALITY IMPROVEMENT position at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center Health System?
T he Performance Improvement (PI) Engineer develops a deep technical understanding of performance improvement systems and component elements, and functional requirements. This role is pivotal in guiding our hospital to achieve excellence in our quality scores including but not limited to, CMS Star Ratings, Leapfrog Scores, and HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) scores. The PI Engineer monitors and assesses the operation of the systems by developing operational telemetry and data reports to analyze performance data. Works independently and in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to implement system improvements. Manages projects, leads teams and working groups as required. Facilitates the prioritization, efficiency, and evaluation of the work of other team members through the development and provision of technology tools and data reports. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Data Submission: Submit and validate all data to vendors for quality measures including but not limited to eCQMs, CMS Core Measures, and Joint Commission ORYX data.
Educational Leadership: Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs to hospital staff on the intricacies of Leapfrog Scores, CMS Star Ratings, and HCAHPS. Ensure that all team members understand the criteria and methodologies behind these ratings.
Performance Analysis: Conduct thorough analyses of hospital performance data to identify areas for improvement. Utilize statistical tools and performance metrics to provide actionable insights.
Strategic Planning: Collaborate with hospital leadership to design and implement strategic plans aimed at improving quality scores. Provide expert guidance on best practices and evidence-based strategies.
Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to streamline hospital processes, enhance patient care, and improve overall efficiency. Employ Lean, Six Sigma, and other quality improvement methodologies as appropriate.
Compliance and Reporting: Ensure hospitals comply with all relevant regulations and reporting requirements. Assist in the preparation and submission of accurate and timely reports to regulatory bodies.
Data Requests: Provide routine data requests to measure quality and value of care including, but not limited to, physician reporting (OPPE/FPPE), outcomes monitoring, and assessing impact of pay for performance programs. Work closely with the Data Analytics team to insure data integrity and "one source" for data whenever possible.
Special Projects: Conduct ad-hoc projects utilizing Industrial Engineering tools and techniques.
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer or Data Science, Nursing or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Proven experience in healthcare quality improvement, with a strong focus on Leapfrog Scores, CMS Star Ratings, and HCAHPS.
Proficiency in data analysis and performance measurement tools.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.
Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or other relevant quality improvement methodolo gies is a plus.
