NE ARC Project Director - Archaeology/Cultural Resources

 

Description

NE ARC, Inc. is seeking to hire an experienced full-time Project Director to join our team. The position will be based out of our Farmington, Maine office, however projects will be conducted throughout the Northeast, primarily Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The position will require the management and direct supervision of archaeological projects in the field, laboratory and office.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements

·         Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or a closely related field.

·         Experience in archaeology consulting including supervisory experience in fieldwork, site evaluation and data recovery.

·         Knowledge of North American Archaeology; Prehistory; Artifact Analysis; Historic Preservation; Secretary of the Interior Standards for Archaeology; National Register of Historic Places eligibility criteria; familiarity with federal and state laws and regulations for cultural resources and historic preservation including, but not limited to, Section 106.

·         Well-developed verbal and technical writing skills, with the ability to author and review technical reports, scopes-of-work and research designs.

·         Computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and working knowledge of GIS computer software.

·         Proficiency with archaeological survey and field mapping techniques using survey equipment such as GPS and total stations.

·         Must be able to work in a variety of environments and walk long distances over uneven terrain and be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.

·         Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel to field projects as needed.

·         Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or hold a federally approved work visa.

·         Register of Professional Archaeologists certified or equivalent.

·         Ability to lead a team and good interpersonal communication.

·         Strong writing skills, clarity in note taking and preparation of sketch maps.

·         Good organizational skills and attention to details.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

·         In-field supervision of all aspects of archaeological survey, site recording and evaluation and archaeological testing and data recovery.

·         Coordinating and communicating with a range of clients as well as representatives from various local, state, and federal agencies.

·         Working independently under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

·         Analyzing and documenting pre-contact and/or historic sites and artifacts.

·         Writing technical reports, proposals, scopes-of-work and other documents related to cultural resource management.

 

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is based on experience and education.  This is a full-time position with benefits, including 401k, sick and vacation time, holidays, and healthcare stipend.
