What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sonographer - OB/GYN position at Northeast OB/GYN?
Primary duties includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Uses diagnostic medical equipment to perform clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations. Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purposes. Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the physicians.
- Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions. Prepares equipment for procedures. Selects appropriate equipment settings. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed.
- Coordinates work schedules with managers and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage.
- Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in your care. Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
- Assists with the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory. Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies. Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
- Participates in the maintenance of laboratory accreditation.
- Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referral or commercial agencies.
- Maintains a daily log of patients seen / completes exam billing forms.
