What are the responsibilities and job description for the Forensic Interviewer position at Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center?
The position of Forensic Interviewer consists of direct work with child victims of alleged abuse, their non-offending family members, Child Protective Services, Law Enforcement Agencies, and prosecutors, and other Multidisciplinary Team Members and partner agencies. This position reports to the Lead Forensic Interviewer.
Essential Functions:
Forensic Interviewer
- Conduct interviews of alleged victims of physical abuse, sexual abuse and witnesses of violent crime from age three years through seventeen years as well as developmentally- challenged adults as necessary.
- Maintain knowledge of current laws, trends, and best practices in forensic interviewing, child sexual abuse dynamics, and issues related to child abuse by attending trainings and regularly reviewing current literature from research, protocols, and standards.
- Meet with Multidisciplinary Team Members during case assessment, coordinate case information when needed, and facilitate meetings as assigned by the Lead Forensic Interviewer.
- Provide expert testimony in court for alleged child victims of physical abuse, sexual abuse and witness of violent crime, as needed.
- Attend and participate in regular in-person and virtual training as it relates to forensic interviewing. Required to complete 8 hours every two years.
- Maintain appropriate client case files, including documentation on case progress and record statistical data.
- Participate in peer reviews a minimum of two times per year, as required by national standards and NETCAC policies.
- Provide crisis intervention to child abuse victims and non-offending family members as needed.
- Meet with non-offending family members during case assessment as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Lead Forensic Interviewer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, criminal justice, or related field required; Master’s degree a plus.
- Knowledge in child abuse issues, reporting abuse, child development, or investigations a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working directly with children and their families preferred.
- Experience working with law enforcement, child protective services, prosecution, victim services, or crisis services or interventions preferred.
- Familiarity with child abuse interventions, child protective services, or child abuse investigations preferred but not required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be flexible, a team player and work well with others in high stress situations;
- Provide court testimony as required;
- Must be willing to be trained in the specialized field of forensic interviewing and family advocacy and regularly peer-reviewed for expertise in the field;
- Must be willing to travel locally for case review staffing meetings, trainings, and to two satellite offices;
- Must be willing to be on-call (after hours and weekends) for one week per month as a Forensic Interviewer. On-call rotation requires the candidate to live within 40 minutes of the Center.
- Must successfully complete the Forensic Interviewer training within the required timeframe as set forth by accreditation standards.
- Experience working with law enforcement, child protective services, prosecution, victim services, or crisis services or interventions preferred.
- Familiarity with child abuse interventions, child protective services, or child abuse investigations preferred but not required.
- Experience working directly with children and their families preferred.
OTHER INFORMATION
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current liability insurance.
- Position involves occasional evening, weekend, and holiday hours with overtime pay provided.
- Local travel (up to 25%) to and from satellite offices and local travel within an seven (7) county-region for team meetings, court hearings, Case Review staffing, and other events as needed.
- Overnight travel may occasionally be required for training and education purposes.
- Must complete Forensic Interviewer training through Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas within first year of hire.
- Employment dependent upon the successful completion of a background check, including criminal and CPS clearances.
- Bending, stooping, reaching and other movements are required in dealing with children; ability to lift materials (up to 20 lbs).

SALARY
Salary is dependent upon experience and/or qualifications, with a minimum starting range between $36,000 - $38,000, with opportunities for advancement.
Bilingual pay for qualified candidates who demonstrate proficiency.
This position is subject to a 90-day probationary hiring period.
