POSITION DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY:
The Family Peer Specialist will provide support to children and their families by engaging with families, incorporating their voice into treatment, and by providing resources as needed.
Activities will include
- Supporting initial and continuing engagement with IBHS and other behavioral health services
- Provide support to families around IBHS from the perspective of a peer
- Empowering the family to understand their role as a member of the treatment team
- Supporting families to advocate on behalf of their child
- Provide support and coaching during meetings
- Assist families with developing natural supports
- Assist with linkage to resources as needed
- Collaborating with other IBHS treatment team members
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Has lived experience as a family member of a child with behavioral health treatment or with other child serving systems
- Experience navigating multi-system services and a working knowledge of available community resources preferred
- Must demonstrate a genuine respect for children, adolescents, adults, and their families
- Be sensitive to the needs of children, adolescents, and adults, particularly those that relate to family dynamics, and the educational and community structures
- Demonstrate an understanding of cultural competence and the principles of recovery and resiliency
ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must demonstrate genuine empathy and concern for individuals as indicated in our corporate vision, mission, and values statements.
- Adhere to applicable city, county, state, and federal laws and regulations, internal
NET standards.
- Must have current state clearances for Child Abuse, Criminal Records, and Contagious Diseases.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Must be able to maintain strong boundaries within their role as a Family Peer Specialist
- Must maintain all requirements regarding training and supervision as defined by licensing regulations and NET policy.

- Ability to ascend and descend flights of stairs and to negotiate curbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Travel community settings, family homes, and other agency sites as well as to outside meetings, conferences or workshops is required.
WORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week. A flexible schedule will be required to meet the needs of clients and families.
