What are the responsibilities and job description for the School-Based Mental Health Clinician position at Northeast Washington Educational Service District?

The School-Based Mental Health Clinician has the unique opportunity to develop positive relationships with students and provide prevention and early intervention services to promote student wellness. This role provides individual, group and family counseling support to students impacted by mental health, substance use, and trauma. You will also have an opportunity to be part of a unique team of professionals who meet regularly to support one another, come together for professional growth and to network with one another.
The position is done for the purpose of providing leadership and assistance to school districts in the development of comprehensive programs clinical behavioral health support and intervention, counseling, and case management.
This position will serve Deer Park and Nine Mile school districts. This position is 8 hours per day, Monday-Friday, for 210 days following the typical school schedule.- Provides direct clinical and psycho-educational services to individuals (students/parents/guardians, etc.) including individual, family and group therapy.
- Manages individual caseload, including intake, progress notes, assessments, diagnosis, treatment plans, risk assessments, and evaluation of treatment progress for the purpose of compiling and documenting activities in compliance with program evaluations.
- Works alongside building administrators, school counselors, and other staff for the purpose of meeting student needs and making referrals.
- Maintains HIPAA compliant clinical records and all other required documentation in a timely manner for the purpose to complying with program requirements and legal mandates.
- Participates in school meetings, such as multidisciplinary team (MDT) and administrative/counselor meetings for the purpose of facilitating referrals and coordination of supports.
- Participates in required NEWESD 101 staff meetings, trainings, and supervisions.
- Coordinates a variety of activities for the purpose of providing continuity of services for students to promote success.
- Facilitates educational groups for identified students for the purpose of alleviating isolation, coping with anxiety, identifying student resources, and enhancing coping skills, etc.
- Monitors students' grades and attendance for the purpose of evaluating program effectiveness.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios, read technical information, compose a variety of documents, facilitate group discussions, and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes:
- generally accepted mental health and substance abuse assessment, intervention, treatment, and recovery process for adolescents and families,
- behavioral health counseling and prevention,
- physical and emotional development of adolescents, and
- mental health issues.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and events, gather, collate, and classify data, and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances, work with data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and groups and work with a variety of data. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines. Responsibilities
Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and methods, leading, guiding, and coordinating others, and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the agency's services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under a generally hazard free environment.
Experience
Experience working in mental health is required. Experience working in school setting preferred.
Education
Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling or a similar field is required.
Continuing Education/Training
Ability to obtain certification within one year in one of the following areas:
- school social work
- children's mental health specialist
Certificates & Licenses
- Valid driver's license and required auto insurance.
- Mental health counselor license or near completion of required hours for licensure.
