Position Summary
Prepares operating and endoscopy suites for surgery, using appropriate techniques. Provides technical services and assists in procedural settings as assigned and directed.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment.
Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
Assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
Drapes patients for surgical procedures.
Prioritizes work and provides prompt and efficient service.
Assists in maintaining correct count of instruments, sutures and sponges.
Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks supplies.
Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs.
Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel.
Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Education - Post High School vocational/Specialized Training
Minimum Experience - On-the-job training Required Course(s)/ Training Completion of course for surgical technicians or extensive on-the-job-training
Required Certifications/Registration - Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred Experience - Previous experience as a surgical technician
Preferred Certification/Licensure - Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification through Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) certification through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or completion of courses for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) with license
