Position Summary
Attends nursing station and performs clerical and reception duties, requisitions supplies, equipment, and other services as directed.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Consistently follows established protocols and procedures.
Performs clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer, and death. Responds promptly to patient inquiries and requests. Conducts job duties in accordance with departmental standards
Keeps patient records current. Organizes work to complete job tasks in a timely manner. Completes logs and records promptly, recording all information that could be pertinent to others. Verifies physicians’ discharge and request for medical record orders.
Prepares charts, photocopies information, files information, and answers telephone, takes messages, and directs calls. Communicates clearly and tactfully with patients, their families, and co-workers. Ensures that records and information are swiftly retrieved
Requisitions supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services, and prepares related forms. Keeps stock and equipment inventories. Reviews supplies inventory to maintain optimal stock without excessive inventory.
Prioritizes work and provides prompt and efficient services. Organizes work to complete job tasks in a timely manner.
Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.
Arranges for patients’ ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services. Transcribes physicians’ orders as written, completely and accurately.
Maintains department records, reports, and files as required. Serves as a resource to co-workers
Consults with and advises unit supervisors/head nurses on unit management.
Prepares and maintains records of patient charges.
Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel. Communicates technical information in a manner appropriate for intended audience. Serves as a resource for co-workers.
Follows policies and procedures regarding attendance and work hours. Demonstrates flexibility in working hours and days scheduled in order to meet the needs of the hospital. Works scheduled shifts. Reports to work on time. Attends required number of staff meetings per year.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Minimum Education - High School or equivalent
Minimum Experience - On the job or equivalent in admitting procedures
Required Certification/Registration - BLS certification
