Job Summary:

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

Provide a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children can develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Provide a lesson plan by which classes are conducted. Assist Child Development Supervisor and functionally supervise Child Care Assistant, Student Workers, Student Teachers, Clinical Students, and Observation Students.

Job Description:

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

This position reports to Child Development Supervisors and the Director of the Child Care Center who in turn reports to the Dean of the College of Education. This position will assist the Child Development Supervisor and the Director in supervising Child Care Assistants, Student Workers, Student Teachers, Clinical/Observation Students, and Volunteers assigned or associated with the Toddler, Pre-School, and Pre-K programs. This position also works with the Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and provides developmentally appropriate early childhood education programs; plans and implements curriculum and education for children aged 15 months to 5 years old. Assists the Child Development Supervisors in observing and evaluating children's progress and communicating with parents. May assist/ lead the Child Development Supervisor to train Child Care Assistants, student workers, clinical students, and observation students performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers as appropriate to the area of operation. Communicate with parents and Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) community groups; maintains open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child's family relationships.
  • Assists Child Development Supervisor and lead the training and evaluation of Child Care Associates, Student Workers, Student teachers, Clinical Students, and Observation Students. Maintains classroom equipment and materials and performs housekeeping chores as needed.
  • Prepares reports and maintains records as required for the Child Care Center and the College of Education.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications:

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

Possession of credentials required by Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for employment as a Child Care Worker in a licensed child care facility.

1). Section 407.140 DCFS qualifications:

  • Early childhood teachers and school-age workers shall be at least 19 years of age.

  • Early childhood teachers and school-age workers shall have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED).

2). In addition to meeting the requirements of Section 407.100, the early childhood teacher responsible for a group of children that includes infants, toddler or preschool-age children shall have achieved:

  • Sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six;

OR

  • One year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six.

3). Physical examination as required by Illinois Child Care Act for employees in child care facilities personal attributes required by Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for all child care personnel (Can be completed during the first 6 months of employment).

Hourly Rate: $18.00

Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision benefits, generous time off plans, and participation in the State Universities Retirement System.

Educational Benefits: Eligible for tuition waiver of 6 credit hours per semester after probationary period is met.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 7a.m. - 6 p.m. (Hours may vary depending on departmental needs).
