Kirschner Grant - Career Navigator
Job Summary
Career Navigator is a grant funded part time position with the RiverHawks Scholar Program and will
work directly with students in their internship employment experience. The RiverHawks Scholar
Program is a four-year inclusive program designed to provide students with intellectual or
developmental disabilities the opportunity to participate in the academic, residential, social, career
and cultural experiences offered by the University with appropriate support for success. The
candidate must be a self-starter, strong knowledge of the Tahlequah community and have the
passion; composure needed to work with college students with disabilities. He/she must be
organized, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be proficient in Microsoft
Office. This position shall report to the Director of the Riverhawks Scholar Program.
Duties
Identify, collaborate and recruit on campus, off campus internship employers
for customized jobs for our students with disabilities utilizing a supported
employment approach.
Identify and document the students interests utilizing NSU - Skills First Software
Identify and document the students skills and talents in order to facilitate an
appropriate job placement.
Assist students with the creation of a resume, participating in mock interviews &
utilizing online job search software such as NSUs Handshake account.
Assist students by offering guidance to help them understand job
tasks, workplace culture, and employer expectations while students are
participating in their internship placements.
This position will ensure that the appropriate job accommodations and
strategies have been implemented at the worksite. Responsible for
documentation and maintaining accurate notes to record student progress.
Train & address employer concerns about hiring people with
disabilities while maintaining the confidentiality of the students.
Coordinating group training sessions if multiple students need to improve in
similar job skill areas.
Facilitating job trainings for tasks specific to the individuals job function
Identify a wide variety of workplace supports and provide training and follow up
supports for workplace supervisors; teams.
Advocating for the student throughout their employment period
Utilize data collection techniques to document effectiveness of workplace
supports and to guide fading from the job site
Provides weekly observation and support to student employees as a
follow along service.
Job placement in desired career fields for current RiverHawks Scholar
Program students in Cherokee County
Increase the number of off campus job placements for current RSP
students Job placement for RSP graduates in desired career fields in
Cherokee County Employment retention for RSP graduates (30, 60, 90, 180 days )
Increased communication & trainings for employment supervisor; co-workers Track data on community involvement for current RSP students; graduates living in Cherokee County. Community involvement is an important indicator of independent living success
Work collaboratively with RSP staff
Participate in weekly RSP planning meetings
Prepare reports for the Director as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a
baccalaureate degree. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or
education are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of educational/inclusive practices is a plus
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver license issued by the State of
Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
This Position Will Work
20 hours per week
32 weeks (fall, spring semesters)
6 weeks (summer semester)
$22.00 per hour
