Asst Dir - Operations & Outreach, Asian American CenterAbout the OpportunityJOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Associate Director of the Asian American Center (AAC), the Assistant Director is a member of a dynamic team of professionals focused on fostering greater awareness, knowledge, and skills around Asian identities, cultures, and belonging through individualized and communal support-in person and online-for Asian Pacific Islander Desi America (APIDA) learners as well as a robust collection of signature events and programs. The Assistant Director implements, evaluates, and develops dynamic experiential programs promoting a deeper sense of belonging and advancing the University's ambitious diversity / equity / inclusion plan and works with both domestic and international students to promote deeper dialogue and relationships. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director and Associate Director to further develop and grow student engagement and support strategies to meet the needs of a diverse Asian population on Northeastern campuses across the globe.The Assistant Director has primary accountability within the Center for the implementation of student-facing outreach and communications strategies; operational systems related to the AAC programs and events; newsletters; and community outreach related to the Center's day-to-day work. Under the direction of the Associate Director, the Assistant Director supports AAC's student peer mentoring programs, directs event logistics including risk management and contracts of people and services, purchasing items to support events, preparing documents for reimbursements, and other operational tasks that may be needed. The Assistant Director is also tasked with sharing responsibility for writing curriculum, managing daily operations of the physical space, supervising student employees, and contributing to the ideation, implementation, and evaluation of signature events and programs. The Assistant Director may also be tasked with providing mentorship and support to student organizations and affinity groups as needed in collaboration with the other professional staff of the Center.The AAC is embedded within Northeastern University's Cultural and Spiritual Life unit. The Cultural and Spiritual Life Centers of Northeastern University are dedicated to the support, celebration, and advancement of cultural identity and affinity. As such, the AAC programs aim to foster communal traditions and intersectional identities, advance intercultural literacy and dialogue / community-building skills; foster intellectual / personal / spiritual / vocational growth; build bridges with local, national, and global cultural, religious / spiritual / humanist, and social justice communities; promote wellness and wholeness through practices of self-care; and advance civic engagement, social action, and global citizenship as learners work to build a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world. This position involves significant involvement in evening and weekend programs and events.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree required, master's preferred in a related field and 1-3 years of experience working with diverse or marginalized populations or an equivalent combination of education and experience, such as a bachelor's degree in a related field supported by significant professional and other experience aligned with the core competencies of the position. Knowledge of social justice issues and best practices, program and curriculum design, student activism, and APIDA cultural issues is a must. Knowledge of global APIDA climates and international student experiences is preferred. Specific experience in providing direct services to historically underrepresented and APIDA students in an urban, multicultural, and global environment preferred.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES Outreach & Student Support Programming Assist AAC co-chairs on curriculum, with a focus on programs that creatively enhance students' capacity to access healthcare, wellness resources, and other essential resources on and off campus.Manage the Center's web presence, social media accounts, weekly newsletter, and general inbox, triaging incoming messages as appropriate.Assist with outreach events for the Center including orientations, open houses, welcome events and year-ending events; with the Associate Director, coordinate the representation of the Center at all Student Life outreach events collaborating with the Center management and student employees on staffing.Contribute to ongoing development and implementation of a strategy for supporting international and globally mobile students who identify as APIDA or are exploring their identity.Support signature events and major programming initiatives including ideation, program coordination, day-of staffing, facilitation, documentation, and evaluation.Provide one-on-one direct support to students.Operations Recruit, train, manage and supervise student staff responsible for staffing the Asian American Center and outreach activities in conjunction with the Associate Director.Maintain and continuously improve operational processes, documentation, for AAC programs and signature events.Assess, evaluate, and document programs and services.Manage the Center's web presence, social media accounts, and general inbox, triaging incoming messages as appropriate.Position Type Student ServicesAdditional Information Northeastern University considers factors such as candidate work experience, education and skills when extending an offer.
