About The Opportunity

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

New for Fall 2025, Northeastern students admitted to New York City Scholars will begin their journey at the Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) campus in Manhattan as a cohort of fellow first-year Northeastern students. Located in a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood in NYC, just moments from landmarks such as Central Park and the Guggenheim Museum, the NYC Scholars will have a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural and academic heart of New York City.

During their first year, students will have access to the variety of cultural institutions, artistic venues, and professional opportunities that define New York City's global influence. In their second year and beyond, NYC Scholars will study on Northeastern's Boston campus and have the opportunity to continue to explore global program offerings.

Job Summary

The Global Student Success team, a part of Northeastern’s Student Life office, which supports the student experience in the N.U.in and NYC Scholars program, is hiring NYC Student Success Coordinators (SSC), also referred to as “on-site staff." The primary purpose of this early-career or entry-level role is to develop and maintain an environment conducive to the social, personal, and academic success of first-year students during the program. On-site staff members focus on creating positive and valuable experiential learning opportunities for NYC students. They support students in their residential experience, academic coursework, navigating and experiencing the region, and through connecting students to Northeastern and other support services. Coordinators work in teams and are supervised by on-site and Boston-based leadership. Site staff enthusiastically embody the mission and values of Northeastern University while working and living in close proximity to first-year students.

This position will begin on July 15 with a mandatory, approximately two-week in-person training program in Boston, MA on Northeastern’s campus, followed by additional online training to take place in between the on-site training and departure for NYC. Once staff arrive on site, they will undergo additional site-specific training in collaboration with Marymount Manhattan College. This is a year-long residential position that ends May 30, 2026.

Responsibilities Include

  • Training: active participation in training and orientation in summer 2025 to prepare for on-site duties during the academic year.
  • Community building: develop and implement activities to support engagement, belonging, and personal growth, such as floor meetings and group meals. Partner with MMC staff to support excursions in the region and collaborate with both academic institutions' staff when needed. Encourage students’ academic success and personal growth, respond to student concerns, and connect students to on-site and Boston-based academic, medical, and mental health resources. Coordinators must maintain high visibility within their residential communities.
  • Student conduct: Monitor student behavioral policies and protocols. Uphold a high standard of student conduct. Enforce both institutions’ Codes of Student Conduct. Hold administrative hearings with students regarding alleged policy violations, adjudicate cases, assign sanctions, and make referrals when necessary. Utilize educational sanctions as a developmental component as appropriate.
  • Crisis management: Respond to emergency and crisis situations during business hours or when on call. Document these incidents as they occur and follow up diligently. Participate in an on-call duty rotation including evenings and weekends. Evaluate and assess student behaviors and community trends and provide appropriate interventions. Conduct and document regular rounds of student residences. Escalate issues as needed to managers and other stakeholders and communicate continuously. Accompany students to hospitals and emergency rooms.
  • General administrative tasks including but not limited to: incident reporting, maintaining records in databases such as financial/programming/rounds, excursion requests, and monitoring travel permissions.
  • Collaborate with the Northeastern team and partner staff to provide for students’ safety and well-being and contribute to the development and overall success of the program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Spring 2025 graduates will be considered)
  • Preferred: 1-2 years of demonstrated student service experience or higher education experience in a residence life or student affairs capacity, which includes experience living with or working with high school or undergraduate students (in residence life, student affairs, camp counseling, or related area)
  • Preferred: Experience in conflict resolution and mediation.
  • Preferred: Experience with crisis management.
  • Proven ability to work well as a member of a close-knit team.
  • Experience managing events for large groups with enthusiasm and attention to detail.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Preferred: Knowledge or experience of Northeastern University or Marymount Manhattan College.
  • The university is unable to work sponsor for this role, now or in the future.
