Position: Historic Preservation Crew Leader
Living Allowance: $1,400 stipend every two weeks
Location: Based in Duluth, MN and traveling throughout MN and surrounding service areas
Reports to: Northern Bedrock Historic Preservation Corps (NBHPC) Staff
Service Term:
Full term: May 13, 2025, to November 5, 2025 (1200 hours)
Education Award: Qualified student loans may be eligible for forbearance during the service term. The AmeriCorps Segal Education Award is granted after successful program completion and a minimum of 1200 service hours. The full-term award is $5,176.50
Requirements: Must be at least the age of 18 at the start of the program, be a United States Citizen, United States National or Lawful Permanent Resident in the United States and provide documents as proof, High School Diploma or working towards GED before using the award, able to pass a background check, Verified identity through Government Issued ID and Social Security Number, functional knowledge and use of the English language, both oral and written, flexible schedule that allows the ability to travel and camp for extended periods of time, willingness to follow all crew policies and participate in a safe working environment, including PPE standards, ability to appropriately represent Northern Bedrock and the AmeriCorps Program, ability to perform the essential functions of the job 9 hours per day (manual labor, heavy lifting, bending and carrying up to 50 pounds), access to reliable transportation for reporting to crew meeting location in Duluth at the beginning of each project, and strict agreement to not engage in any Prohibited Activities as defined in the Member Service Agreement during AmeriCorps hours

Position Summary:
As Crew Leader, you will supervise a crew of Corpsmembers with varying skills and abilities at historic preservation project sites. You will oversee projects in cemetery restoration, masonry, window restoration, log building restoration, painting/scraping, roofing, and general carpentry. You do not have to be an expert at these hands-on skills. The main responsibility for Crew Leaders is to ensure effective communication between the Project Host, Technical Instructors, Northern Bedrock Staff, and your crew while adhering to and enforcing our standards of safety both at project sites and at spike camp. You will work alongside your crew to set the pace and solve problems as they arise. You will foster positive crew morale through consistent teamwork, encouragement, and clear communication.
Service Logistics:
You will serve on a 9-day-on, 5-day-off schedule, serving 9-hour days from 8:00 am -5:30 pm. You must be able to commit to the hitch schedule for the duration of your term of service (with 3 days of built-in time off). While on hitch, you will camp at or near the site, prepare meals as a crew, transport our trailers, and complete the hands-on historic preservation project. Crews are typically 4-6 Corpsmembers, all at least 18 years old, with one dedicated Crew Leader. All AmeriCorps members are required to take a daily 30-minute lunch break that does not contribute to service hours.

Desired Qualifications:
- Experience performing historic preservation restoration – i.e. window or masonry restoration, carpentry, log structure maintenance, exterior finish application, or roof repair.
- Experience with AmeriCorps, service learning, or living in community
- Ability and desire to live and work with others in a team setting.
- Interest in a historic preservation career.
- Management or leadership experience.
- Commitment to the full AmeriCorps service term.
- Access to reliable transportation for reporting to crew meeting location in Duluth at the beginning of each project.
- Strict agreement to not engage in any Prohibited Activities as defined in the Member Service Agreement during AmeriCorps hours.
