Role Summary
The Sample Management Technician will engage in ensuring proper storage, packaging, and shipment of samples to their designated location. This position is responsible for understanding regulatory shipping requirements and sending internal and external communications on sample status.
This is non-exempt and has no supervisory responsibility.
Role Responsibilities
- Create, review, and verify shipping manifest for accuracy.
- Communicate and coordinate with vendors/sponsors about shipments.
- Ship required samples to sponsor designated facilities in a timely manner.
- Properly handle hazardous materials according to regulatory guidelines.
- Operate lab equipment and perform routine maintenance, as needed.
- Maintain and clean laboratory spaces and equipment.
- Review data and records for completeness and ensure Standard Operating Procedures are followed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Role Requirements
- Associate degree, 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent in a scientific-related discipline preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience with general laboratory techniques and data collection preferred.
- Prior experience working in a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Experience with a regulated environment and a general understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and other federal regulations.
- Basic understanding of laboratory operations, study design, and the importance of comprehensive data collection.
- Ability to multitask and manage several independent projects within the expected job role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Self-starter, able to prioritize work, and function efficiently in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn and use additional applications.

Special Requirements
- The role will spend approximately 40% in an office setting and 60% in the laboratory. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
- Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including respirators.
- Physical activity includes lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying (up to 40lbs for up to 50 feet), and pushing/pulling (up to 75lbs force).
- Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including evenings, weekends, and extended shifts with short notice on an as-needed basis.
