Role Summary
The Sample Management Technician will be engaged in ensuring all samples and reagents are documented upon receipt and properly stored. The Sample Management Technician is also responsible for maintaining the internal chain of custody for samples/reagents and ensure they are made available to staff in a timely manner. The role will also maintain the inventory of lab consumables to ensure continuous operations and ship samples to sponsor designated facilities in a timely manner.
This is a non-exempt role that is eligible for overtime after 40 hours in a workweek and has no supervisory responsibility.
Role Responsibilities
- Review and verify shipping manifest for accuracy and reports any discrepancies
- Properly handle hazardous materials according to OSHA and company guidelines
- Receive and inventory reagents, supplies, and samples.
- Create manifests for shipping, inventorying, and disposing of samples and reagents
- Operate lab equipment and perform routine maintenance, as needed
- Maintain and clean laboratory spaces and equipment, including, but not limited to, disposing of trash, and washing lab wear.
- Review data and records for completeness and ensure standard operating procedures are followed.

Role Requirements
- Associate degree in a related discipline or 2 years of experience preferred.
- Laboratory courses will be considered when accompanied by appropriate collegiate transcript for review.
- Experience with a regulated environment and a general understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and other federal regulations
- Basic understanding of study design and ability to comprehend and follow protocols
- Prior experience working in a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is beneficial
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn and use additional applications.

- Ability to multitask and manage several independent projects within the expected job role

Special Requirements
- The person filling this position will spend approximately 10% in an office setting and 90% in the laboratory. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of, and/or exposure to, animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
- Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including N95 masks and respirators
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
