Role Summary
The Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory/consumables and services for the organization. This includes reviewing market conditions, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring timely delivery of products. The ideal candidate will have strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments
This is a non-exempt role that is not eligible for overtime and has no supervisory responsibility.
Role Responsibilities
- Research and evaluate suppliers based on cost, quality, and reliability
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and contracts with suppliers to obtain the best deals
- Prepare and manage purchase orders and invoices for inventory/consumables and services
- Resolve any supply chain issues or discrepancies related to open purchase orders
- Ensure inventory/consumables meet quality standards and specifications
- Manage and maintain inventory levels, ensuring timely reordering of items
- Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for cost savings or new/replacement items
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and vendor communications
- Coordinate with other departments (such as operations and finance) to align purchasing needs
- Support all inventory management pursuits including cycle counting and month end routines
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors and understand the cost drivers
- Continuously evaluate procurement procedures for potential process improvements
- Ensure compliance with regulations (handling hazardous materials)
- Other duties as assigned
Role Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, or related field preferred
- 2 years of experience in procurement required; 3-5 years preferred
- Experience in Biotechnology industry desired
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office core applications
- Previous experience with Microsoft Business Central desired
- Ability to actively engage and communicate effectively with leadership
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, both inside and outside the organization
- Critical thinking and negotiation skills

Special Requirements
- The person filling this position will spend approximately 90% of their time in an office setting and 10% in a warehouse/vivarium environment. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals
- Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including N95 masks and respirators
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Occasionally ascend/descend ladders and stairs
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
