Role Summary
The Veterinary Technician I will engage in assisting veterinarians with animal wellness examinations and animal medical care.
This is a non-exempt position and has no supervisory responsibilities.
Role Responsibilities
- Record clinical observations and data in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
- Assist attending/staff veterinarian(s) with veterinary examinations
- Conduct treatments of animals under veterinary care, including calculation of drug doses and administration of drugs via all routes
- Collect samples (blood, urine, feces, and other samples as needed), and perform basic analyses or arrange for external testing according to veterinarian's direction
- Perform initial triage of veterinary patients when an attending/staff veterinarian(s) is not available
- Perform anesthesia, including but not limited to assessing anesthetic depth, intubation/extubation, use of anesthesia machines. Use patient warming and monitoring systems.
- Perform sterile and non-sterile scrub of procedure/sample collection sites
- Assist in surgery
- Perform euthanasia
- Other duties as assigned
Role Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- LVT OR AS/BS in veterinary technology OR 1 year experience in veterinary or laboratory animal science required.
- ALAT/LAT/LATG certification preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records systems preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn and use additional applications.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to handle common laboratory species
- Basic understanding of laboratory operations and data collection preferred.

Special Requirements
- This role works predominately in a laboratory setting. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of, and/or exposure to, animal tissues and zoonotic organisms.
- Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including N95 masks and respirators.
- Physical activity includes lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying (up to 40lbs for up to 50 feet), pushing/pulling (up to 75lbs force), reaching, gripping/pinching, standing, and ascending ladders without restriction.
- Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts with short notice.

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
