Northern Cochise Community Hospital (NCCH) is a Critical Access Hospital with two rural health clinics looking to fill a Nursing Clinical Supervisor - Full Time  / Salaried position.

Summary: Functions as the Nursing Clinical Supervisor (NCS) in a team and mission-based setting to provide for first-line operational supervision for assigned functional areas of responsibility (staff scheduling, day/night shift in nursing units of Medical, Emergency, and Endoscopy Departments of a (small) Critical Access Hospital (CAH) at Northern Cochise Community Hospital (NCCH). 

NCS has advanced clinical skills and serves as a clinical resource for department staff. NCS assesses, supervises, monitors and maintains clinical practice and quality/safety standards and staff competencies/development. NCS collaborates with Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead, create and maintain an environment that advocates for staff and promotes individual/team engagement through clinical/administrative expertise and professional leadership. NCS supports comprehensive patient and family services through effective participation with the multidisciplinary team. The NCS is responsible for supervising nursing department staff and providing patient care when needed. NCS ensures adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. NCS must project a professional appearance and be well organized with strong critical thinking skills. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

The Nursing Clinical Supervisor (NCS) must possess strong leadership qualities that instill trust and accountability for a successful outcome.

This position requires a commitment to teamwork, collaboration and department scheduling needs i.e. good attendance, attitude, customer services, communication skills, timely deadlines, etc.,

NOTE: NCS is subject to on call and call back after hours and on weekends and during emergency. Position requires collaborative rotation for weekend call and shift coverage for increased census/acuity or call-offs. NCS is expected to and must be willing to work shifts in all areas of nursing responsibilities.

Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) or designated administrator


Essential Function & Responsibilities: 

Provides Clinical Leadership and Management Oversight

Staff Management

Community Involvement

   - Participates in Medical Staff/Governing Board meetings as directed.

   - Participates in community activities such as health or job fairs, as well as community education opportunities.

Secondary Functions -

Attends meetings and committees to include but not limited to: Performance Improvement, Interdisciplinary Care Team, and Department Manager Meetings.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.

Attends NCCH Committee meetings as representative from Nursing Department.

Attends other meetings as may be assigned or requested.

Attends training and educational programs to enhance Nursing Department.

Reviews monthly financial statements and implements appropriate change.

Perform any other duties needed to help drive our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Organization’s Values.

Special Conditions -

1.     Subject to on call and call back after hours and on weekends and during emergency conditions.

2.     Professionally able to function in any of the Command Staff & General Staff functions of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).

3.     Subject to safety sensitive standards.

4.     Must take active role in planning for emergency preparedness and safety program to ensure areas of responsibilities are well trained, functional and meet requirements.


Education and/or Experience:

Associate Degree in Nursing required.  Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. 

Must be willing of obtain Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of Nursing within 2 years of date of hire, required.

Minimum of three years’ experience as a registered nurse.

Preferred experience in areas of direct patient care hospital setting or rural healthcare. 

(2) years of leadership experience preferred

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Current unrestricted Registered Nurse, license in the State of Arizona required.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate (American Heart Association), required – must maintain current certification and recertify prior to expiration date.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification (American Heart Association), required – must maintain current certification and recertify prior to expiration date.

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Certification or ATCN, preferred.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification, preferred.

Center for Domestic Preparedness Healthcare Leadership and Highly Infectious Disease Course, preferred.

Emergency preparedness training preferred, to include Intermediate and Advanced Incident Management System. Completion of NIMS Courses 100, 200, 700 within 30 days of hire.


Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of Arizona Nurse Practice Act, and current standards of care.

Demonstrated leadership ability and potential managerial competency; evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills, ability to deal well with people, ability to problem solve, ability to confront/resolve issues, ability to motivate others, ability to plan, organize, and direct the activities of others; strong recruitment and retention abilities.

Leverage systems thinking and best practice orientation to identify innovative opportunities to work smarter; build ownership for change as a strategic partner; proactive and visionary in approach.

Knowledge of HIPPA Confidentiality and Security requirements.

Knowledge and technical skills/ability to perform the functions of specific clinical or non-clinical discipline.

Effective critical thinking, problem solving, planning and analytical skills and abilities.

Skill and abilities to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and re-prioritize with changing circumstances.

Computer proficiency and technical aptitude and ability to effectively use computer software programs.

Supports and maintains a culture of safety, quality and positive patient experience
