What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Services Representative (PSR) / Front Office - Clinics [Monday-Friday] position at Northern Cochise Community Hospital?
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: : Functions as a Patient Services Representative (PSR) in a team and mission-based setting to provide a smooth patient flow process by answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, providing registration of patient and insurance information, obtaining required signatures following established processes, procedures and standards. PSR verifies insurance coverage, validates referrals and authorizations, collects patient liability and provides financial guidance to patients to maximize medical services reimbursement efforts. This also includes accurately posting patients at the point of service and releasing information in accordance with NCCH organizational and compliance policies and guidelines. PSR communicates with patients/clients and NCCH staff to ensure the highest quality of customer service. PSR has primary responsibility for serving as a resource to build, strengthen and maintain positive working relationships with patients, clients, providers, case managers, referral representatives, supervisors, program managers, and related service providers or vendors. PSR ensures adherence to hospital and department policies and procedures. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
This position may be asked to work at other hospital district sites as needed. Perform any other duties needed to help drive our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Organizational Values.
PSR registers patients for appointments with clinic providers which includes collection of patient information plus collection of necessary insurance and eligibility information as well as co-pays. PSR will obtain prior authorizations and confirm they are in place before any patient visit with specialty provider(s), and/or before any patient visits for testing, labs, imaging, procedures, etc. PSR communicates with insurance companies to obtain referrals and preauthorization to secure payment for the services and procedures provided by Sulphur Springs Medical Center and Sunsites Medical Clinic. PSR schedules patient appointments for X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI, specialists, etc. Maintains the flow of patient care to outside.
PSR must project professionalism and be well organized with strong critical thinking skills. The Patient Services Representative (PSR) must possess customer services qualities that instill trust and accountability for a successful outcome. This position requires a commitment to teamwork, collaboration and department scheduling needs i.e. good attendance, attitude, customer services, communication skills, timely deadlines, etc.,
Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Clinic Operations Manager or designated administrator.
Special Conditions: Position is Safety Sensitive / Drug Free Workplace
REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent and/or a combination of education, working experience may be considered in lieu of a diploma or GED.
PREFERRED: 1 year experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting, preferred. 2-3 years of experience in customer services preferred.
