Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for supporting the implementation of an equitable workforce development strategy for current employees and applicants from Greater Portland’s immigrant community by facilitating education and advancement pathways to address identified needs. Under the direction of the Vice President of Mission Integration, this position is responsible for assisting in the development and delivery of annual workforce development plan, managing partnerships with adult education and higher education, and working closely with multiple community stakeholders. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position. In addition, the incumbent conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Northern Light Mercy Hospital.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in planning and administering the annual workforce development plan.
- Provides consultation and acts as a resource to executive management, department managers, and supervisors in analyzing and assessing training and development needs and assessing current and future needs recommending cost-effective system-wide training programs.
- Through partnership with adult education, community colleges, and universities, the incumbent develops and implements collaborative learning and advancement pathways for participants with measurable impact to completion, advancement, and equity goals.
- Develops, researches, and documents the effectiveness of various educational approaches and implements changes in programs to continually improve the training and development services offered by Northern Light Mercy Hospital.
- Implement CASA testing as part of onboarding for non-native English speakers.
- Develops cohorts of learners for success or aspirational coaching with identification of different education tactics as needed.
- Implement apprenticeships and place-based learning opportunities for low wage earners and New Mainer community, who are interested in pursuing a healthcare career or have previous healthcare experience.
- Assists in the design, development, and implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion tactics, employee retention and employee recognition.
- Assists in the ongoing design and implementation of a workforce planning process to ensure future staffing needs are met and are aligned with Mercy’s mission, core values and strategic direction. This includes coordinating career and skill assessments and retraining programs. Assists in the development and implementation of special projects in the area of ministry formation and employee development as assigned.
