ScoutReach Program Aide/Scouting America
ScoutReach is a Scouting Emphasis that concentrates on making sure low income and at risk youth have the opportunity to experience Scouting. High Priority to fill.
General Responsibilities: Assist in leading Scouting activities for Cub Scout youth ages 5-10 in afterschool or in school setting. Program Aides serve 2 locations each week and work occasional weekends with advance notice. Program Aide will average 3 hours per week. Programs take place in public schools in conjunction with the YMCA after school program at Jefferson Elementary and Fercho YMCA. Training is provided for the Program Aide, and a Scouting back is encouraged but not necessary.
Work will include:
- Assisting with leading and planning weekly Cub Scout focused meetings for groups of 10-20 youth.
- Monthly meetings/training sessions for working with youth.
- Registration and advancement paperwork.
- Occasional assistance at weekend Scouting events (such as campouts, trainings, or daytime programs)
- Coordinating with the YMCA program to ensure programs are consistent.
- Maintain a great rapport with site staff and parents.
Expectations: Anticipated hours per week are 3 at $18 per hour with a schedule between 4 PM and 5:30PM - 2 days a week. Consistency, willingness to learn, and strong communication is expected of applications. All applicants should represent Scouting in a positive manner.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Successful completion of Youth Protection Training (done online on my.scouting.org)
- Submission of a BSA Adult volunteer application which includes a background check.
- Prior experience/desire to work and have a positive impact of elementary aged youth.
- Ability to perform moderate physical labor.
- Interest in community service, the environment, and team building.
- Be dependable, organized, flexible, and have a sense of humor.
- Enjoyment of the outdoors.
- Reliable transportation.
- Prior Scouting experience is not required.
