What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Lifeguard position at Northern Middlesex YMCA?
Part-Time
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the head lifeguard will need to be available for opening and closing shifts as well as weekends. This position only applies for when neither the director nor coordinator are on site.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
- Performs all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring pool activities, applying first aid, and performing water rescues as necessary
- Maintains active surveillance of the pool area
- Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatics areas
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed
- Conducts first aid inventories and communicates with director when items or equipment are needed
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Current American Red Cross certifications in the following:
- Life Guarding
- First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer (including AED/O2 Administration)
- American Red Cross Certification for life guarding certification instructor must be achieved within 3 months of employment.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
