Northern Pike is a family owned and operated. NPVH is a very busy 6 doctor small animal and exotic practice located in Monroeville. We are looking to add a CVT, or assistant, to our hospital. One year of experience as a technician, or assistant, is preferable, but not required. On the job training can be taught as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- ·1 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician
- Veterinary Technician Certification a plus
Job Responsibilities:
- Providing compassionate care to patients and excellent service to clients.
- Maintaining a professional and confident demeanor, even in high-stress situations.
- Accurately recording medical information in accordance with hospital policies.
- Preparing and maintaining exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Performing physical assessments and recording observations in medical records.
- Safely restraining animals, including large or difficult pets.
- Understanding and explaining common vaccinations and protocols to clients.
- Keeping the facility clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Administering subcutaneous (SQ), intramuscular (IM), and intravenous (IV) injections as directed.
- Addressing client inquiries regarding medical care and directing them to veterinarians when appropriate.
- Preparing estimates for procedures and discussing financial commitments with clients in alignment with hospital policies.
- Explaining follow-up care and homecare instructions to pet owners.
- Understanding common prescription medications, including usage, dosage, and potential side effects, and communicating this information to clients.
- Managing medical supply inventory in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Assisting veterinarians with medical, surgical, and dental procedures, including patient preparation, anesthesia administration, monitoring, and fluid therapy.
- Maintaining and caring for surgical instruments and ensuring the operating room is properly stocked and prepared.
- Performing emergency procedures such as bleeding control, airway management, CPR, and oxygen administration.
- Conducting clinical laboratory procedures, including heartworm tests, skin scrapings, cytology, urinalysis, fungal cultures, and blood draws.
- Taking and positioning patients for radiographs.
- Performing electrocardiograms as needed.
- Placing and maintaining IV catheters (cephalic, saphenous, and jugular) and understanding the use of IV pumps.
- Monitoring hospitalized patients and alerting veterinarians to changes in condition.
- Assisting with ultrasound procedures, including patient preparation.
- Admitting and discharging patients in accordance with hospital policies and veterinarian instructions.
- Educating clients on heartworm prevention, flea control, and new puppy/kitten care, including basic behavior and training techniques.
- Maintaining and utilizing lab, radiology, surgical, and ultrasound equipment.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 25 per week
