Job Description: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)/MDS Coordinator

Position Purpose
The primary purpose of the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)/MDS Coordinator is to assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing the operations of the Nursing Department and overseeing the MDS (Minimum Data Set) process. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and maintains the highest quality of resident care at all times.
The ADON/MDS Coordinator will serve as a clinical and administrative leader, focusing on care quality, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and resident satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
1. Assist the DON in managing the day-to-day operations of the nursing department.
2. Supervise, orient, train, and evaluate nursing staff, ensuring high performance and compliance with quality standards.
3. Provide leadership to nursing staff to maintain a positive and collaborative environment that reflects person-centered care.
4. Develop, manage, and communicate staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
5. Participate in and contribute to meetings, including stand-up/stand-down, care conferences, QAPI, and utilization review.
MDS Coordination and Documentation
6. Coordinate the completion and submission of accurate and timely MDS assessments in compliance with state and federal regulations.
7. Ensure accurate and complete documentation in resident records to support care planning, billing, and compliance requirements.
8. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and update resident care plans based on MDS assessments.
9. Conduct audits to ensure documentation accuracy and identify trends for quality improvement.
Resident Care and Regulatory Compliance
10. Collaborate with the DON and Administrator to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
11. Monitor the delivery of care to residents, ensuring it meets or exceeds standards of quality, safety, and dignity.
12. Conduct audits and investigations related to resident care and provide recommendations for improvement.
13. Assist in preparing the facility for state and federal surveys, responding to surveys as needed.
Staff Development and Training
14. Assist with the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of nursing staff.
15. Provide ongoing education and training for nursing staff, including competency evaluations, in-services, and orientation.
16. Promote professional growth and development for staff through coaching and mentoring.
Other Responsibilities
17. Respond professionally to resident, family, and staff concerns and grievances.
18. Monitor nursing department revenue and expenses, assisting in budget management.
19. Serve as acting DON in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
20. Perform other related duties as required or directed by the DON or Administrator.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45.00 - $48.00 per hour
