Internal Communications Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians Internal Controls, Tribal Gaming Agency Regulations, and all KTEA and NQRC Policies and Procedures.
  • Assists internal clients in developing Team Member communication strategies that support the overall direction of KTI, KTEA, and NQRC.
  • Responsible for writing, editing and proofreading communications materials, including newsletters, executive memos, press releases, intranet articles, blogs, speeches, etc., as needed.
  • Coordinates with internal departments and teams to meet objectives based on need and ensures timely completion of projects.
  • Creates and implements strategic plans for all internal communications channels.
  • Available to assist in any Team Member crisis communications efforts in coordination with the Director of Public Relations.
  • Helps set editorial calendars, priorities, and scheduling for the internal TV channel, Quest Broadcasting Network (QBN) programming.
  • Keeps all internal communication pieces up to date and ensures they are produced in the assigned time frame (daily, weekly, etc.).
  • Assists with scripting and oversees production of videos designed to inform Team Members about strategic objectives and other topics.
  • Work with graphic designers, Marketing Department coordinators and social media team as necessary.
  • Identify and measure key performance indicators and provide recommendations on internal communication strategy.
  • In collaboration with Marketing, ensures outside information relevant to KTI, KTEA and NQRC is communicated to all Team Members.
  • Ensures back-of-house branding is carried out in a manner that reflects our external brand and our internal culture.
  • Collaborates with KTI Communications to ensure timely communications occur to all parties, including Kalispel Tribal Members and KTI, NQRC, and KTEA Team Members.
  • Responsible for writing, editing, proofreading all communications materials, including newsletters, executive memos, etc.
  • Practices Kalispel Hospitality standards while performing job duties and responsibilities.
  • Available to attend events and represent the Tribe as needed.
  • Performs all related and compatible duties as assigned. Assists with the hiring and development of staff.
  • Responsible for maintaining a consistent, regular good attendance record.
  • May be required to be a panelist for an Internal Review Board.
  • May be part of the Crisis Communication notification tree.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing preferred or 2-5 years of directly related experience in communications, graphic design, marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  

Experience:

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills required.
  • Graphic design, photography, and/or video production experience preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, Illustrator, and InDesign), After Effects and/or Premiere a strong plus.

 

Skills:

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft programs and other computer software.
  • Creativity, excellent verbal, written, and editing skills required.
  • Ability to work in a high-profile and fast-paced environment.
  • Skill in written communications and development of memos, news releases, feature stories and fact sheets preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive and remain positive in a multi-tasking, high-demand position.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with department heads and Team Members.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, guests, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operation.
  • Skill in identifying and resolving problems under pressure conditions.
  • Ability to work independently on strategic issues with a variety of clients.

 

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Tribal Gaming License.
  • Available and willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must be willing to sign a legally binding non-competition contract that prohibits activity that directly conflicts with the integrity of Kalispel Tribe Economic Authority’s business interests and its affiliate organizations as specified within the contract for the duration of time listed.

 

Physical Demands

  • Requires the ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Constantly requires the ability to give and receive detailed information through verbal communication.
  • Constantly requires verbally expressing or exchanging ideas of essential instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Constantly requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm.
  • Constantly requires repetitive movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
  • Occasionally requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods.
  • Occasionally requires ascending or descending stairs or ramps using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Occasionally requires raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally.
  • Occasionally requires stooping, which entails the use of the lower extremities and back muscles.  Infrequently requires crouching.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position is performed primarily in an office environment, requiring frequent work with computers and telephones, extended periods of keyboarding, and repetitive motion of hands and wrists.  Significant portions of the job require extended sedentary periods. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to tobacco smoke, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles.  The worker is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions, which protect from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions and wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
