The Independent Living Advocate assists people with disabilities to maximize their independence, effecting community change and being involved with executing broader agency and community advocacy goals. This position will involve public presentations about independent living topics. People with any disability are strongly encouraged to apply.
Coordinate outreach, workshops and seminars.
Assist people to access community resources.
Assist people to learn benefits entitlements such as social security, vocational assistance, social services, housing assistance, adult and child protection services, home health care and personal assistance services, person in need of petitions, Medicaid and food stamps.
Provide peer counseling when appropriate.
Represent NRCIL at forums and public meetings in the community.
Collaborate with co-workers to involve consumers in providing direction to NRCIL programs and participating in center advocacy efforts and activities.
Assist in identifying community needs and in executing agency goals.
Actively promote disability rights and independent living philosophy through all activities conducted within and on behalf of NRCIL.
Complete all reporting and record keeping as required.
Work outside of regular office hours when necessary.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.50 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
