What are the responsibilities and job description for the Testing Center Assistant position at Northern VA Community College?
The Testing Center Assistant is responsible for the administration of computerized and paper-based exams and proctoring services at the Alexandria Campus Testing Center.
Duties and Tasks:
- Perform intake of proctoring requests and appointment registrationsFollow test set-up procedures, administer exams to students, explain test results to students when applicable, and follow post-test procedures.
- Ensure academic integrity by monitoring students using electronic monitoring software, surveillance cameras, and periodic walk-arounds
- Assist students, faculty, and staff via email, phone, and in-person by explaining the services offered in the Testing Center and answering questions related to testing including placement exams, make-up exams, and accommodated exams.
- Maintain accurate posting of test scores in Student Information System and accurate recordkeeping of test information.
- Help students with common PC issues that arise during computer-based testing.
- Keep testing materials stocked and testing lab and office well maintained.
- Assure testing services provided are in accordance with college-wide policies, regulations, and standards.
- Applicants must reside in Virginia, Maryland or Washington, DC.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Experience in high traffic customer service and/or educational support field
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience interacting with diverse populations
- May not be a current NOVA student
- Experience in test administration and/or proctoring
- Experience working in higher education environment
