Job Title: Recreation and Community Education Coordinator
Reports To: Director
Wage Range: $18 - $25/hr
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Classification: Part-time
Worksite: District Office and program sites
OVERVIEW:
The Recreation and Community Education Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and development of a full range of recreation and community education programs. Work involves assessing community needs, working with community groups, planning, organizing, and promoting. Generally, 80% of the job involves program-specific issues; 20% involves long-range planning as it relates to recreation programming.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Planning, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of recreation and community education programs.
2. Supervise and evaluate program staff and volunteers.
3. Address public questions and concerns regarding recreation and community education program offerings and related issues.
4. Promote collaborative efforts with community organizations.
5. Facilitate inclusion of special needs participants in recreation and community education programs.
6. Instruct and lead recreation programs and activities as required.
7. Stay within the appropriated program area budget.
8. Maintain a safe recreational environment for participants.
9. Coordinate use of program area facilities in accordance with facility use agreements and/or regulations; file necessary permits and schedule reservations as needed.
10. Coordinate the scheduling, use, maintenance, and cleaning of recreation vehicles and equipment; maintain mileage reports and related records as required.
11. Coordinate the scheduling, use, maintenance, and cleaning of recreation program equipment and supplies.
12. Keep accurate attendance records and write administration reports; collect fees for classes and events; prepare cash collection reports and deposits.
13. Assist with the organization and operation of District-sponsored special events.
14. Assists in taking calls and tactfully answers requests; screens calls and answers questions; routes questions and complaints as required; provides general information.
15. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of principles, theories, techniques, training, and equipment needs of recreation and community education programs in assigned program areas.
- Ability to assist with budget preparation in assigned areas of responsibility, to make approved purchases, and to remain within defined budget parameters in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Ability to use effective and positive customer service principles.
- Ability to use principles and practices of sound written business communication; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Ability to communicate verbally in a clear and effective manner.
- Ability to organize, set priorities, and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of responsibility.
- Ability to operate computer equipment and advanced use of word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, databases, and other software.
- Skills in planning, leadership, and problem-solving.
- Ability to establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with District managers, elected and appointed officials, staff, co-workers, community and business leaders, customers, the media and others encountered in the course of work.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 years of experience with programs for youth and community members
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSE:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work may be performed both in a traditional office environment, outdoors in varied weather conditions, or at a variety of community sites. The schedule is varied and will require some evening and weekend hours. Physical ability to move objects up to 30 pounds is required. The pressures of the position include working with the public, meeting program deadlines, and addressing risk factors of programs.
