Purpose of this position
To maintain facility maintenance policies and procedures in an efficient, cost-effective manner to safely meet residents’ needs in compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
Qualifications
- High School diploma preferred, G.E.D certificate or demonstrate ability to read and write.
- Maintenance understanding and experience preferred.
- Ability to use hand and power tools and cleaning equipment applicable to job requirements.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle (valid drivers license and insurance required)
- Proven safe driver and clean driving records is essential.
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and friendly demeanor.
- Ability to work in a standing position for hours at a time.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Experience driving vehicles with both manual and automatic transmission.
- Must be at least Twenty-Five (25) years of age.
- Cannot have been convicted of any crime related to any services to be provided under this job description, including, but not limited to moral turpitude, assault or violence.
- Must be able to speak and understand the English language or a language understood by a substantial portion of the facility’s residents.
- Physical ability to perform job-related duties, which may require lifting up to 50lbs, standing, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing and pulling.
- Possess personal qualities making it possible to maintain good interpersonal relationships. Ex: respect for each person as an individual, kindness, and loyalty.
- Must have excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work at any Northfield Retirement Communities Long Term Care, or Assisted Living facility as assigned.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Responsibilities
- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of grounds, amenities, building exteriors and interiors, parking lots and other areas surrounding the facility.
- Details interior and exterior areas on a regular basis using general cleaning tools and equipment (i.e. broom, mop, vacuum, shampooer, rake or blower to keep entry areas, sidewalks, streets and walking areas clean of debris, dust, leaves and brush)
- Assist with snow shoveling of sidewalks and other main entry areas per snow removal policy.
- On call rotation with maintenance team required.
- Helps clean and maintain storage and shop areas.
- Deliver packages to residents and staff.
- Complies with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environment and NRC Health and Safety Policy.
- Understands and follows safe work practices for all trades, including but not limited to:
- Lockout Tag-out
- Ladder Safety
- PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Hazardous Chemicals
- Working from Elevated Surfaces
- And all other Safety Protocols
- Follow SDS sheets.
- Follow facility safety program.
- Follow waste disposal procedures in accordance with facility policy.
- Identify and report areas in poor repair including equipment malfunctions.
- Operate vehicles safely and responsibly.
- System checks: Fire extinguishers, filters and vents, clothes dryer vents, water temperatures, outlet testing, smoke detectors, emergency lights and exit lights, handrails, and other system checks needed.
- Ensures a safe, clean environment for residents and co-workers. Initiate corrective action.
- Provides for proper and safe care of residents’ valuables.
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Accountability and personal integrity are essential as the nature of the position allows access to a resident’s personal and private information.
- Consistently work cooperatively with residents, and staff.
- Come to work in a neat, clean uniform with nametag and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.
- Come to work as scheduled and demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
- Assume accountability for data contained in the employees’ handbook.
- Observe infection control procedures.
- Follow Resident’s Rights policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
