What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clubhouse Generalist position at Northpointe Behavioral Healthcare System?
Northpointe is a Community Mental Health (CMH) organization providing services to individuals with serious mental illness, emotional disturbance, substance abuse disorders, and intellectual/developmental disabilities across Iron, Dickinson, and Menominee counties in the UP of Michigan. Northpointe itself was established in 1995 but has roots as a CMH dating back to 1964. Our presence can be found through remote emergency services, in school and home-based programs, and in clinical and residential home settings.
Job Purpose
Under the supervision of the Clubhouse Manager, the Clubhouse Generalist will engage members in Clubhouse activities including: the workday; the development and achievement of members’ goals; and link and coordination with community resources and community employers. Generalists utilize the Clubhouse Standards as a best practice and follow the strengths-based and person-centered models to facilitate member engagement.

Essential Duties
- Ensures member engagement with all Clubhouse opportunities including: the work ordered day, employment, education, outreach, social activities, wellness initiatives and decision making.
- Organizes, plans and leads a unit and various groups with a focus on member ownership and quality improvement.
- Performs placement management duties for the Transitional Employment Program. These duties include training, absence coverage and maintaining relationships with community business partners. Provides employment support to individual members to ensure their success in transitional, supported and independent employment efforts.
- Encourages members’ self-advocacy and the development of natural and community supports.
- Facilitate social activities, discussion groups, and outings.
- Function as a key staff member.
- Complete paperwork as assigned.
- Work with members on goal planning.
- Recognizes members’ strengths and helps members work from and build upon their strengths.
- Fosters a recovery environment in which members feel wanted, needed and safe.
- Model's positive relationships with staff, members and the larger community.
- Participate in social and recreational activities, including evening, weekend and holiday hours, when required.
- Maintain communication at all levels of Clubhouse operations.
- Participate in education and resource development for Clubhouse members.
- Coordinates effectively with other agency staff on behalf of the member and the Clubhouse.
- Complies with recipient rights reporting requirements established by the Mental Health Code and procedures of Northpointe. Follows Northpointe’s Code of Ethics.
- Assists Clubhouse Manager in evaluating the effectiveness of the Clubhouse and makes suggestions for improvement.
Requirements
Education, Certifications, and/or Experience
- Must be at least 18 years old and have successfully attained a high school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience working with individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disability and mental illness is preferred.
- Experience working in a caregiving, coaching, or teaching role preferred.
