Job Summary:
The Chief Estimator is charge of estimating projects and controls construction costs by collecting and studying information; controlling construction costs.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, seek, and evaluate bid opportunities
- Utilize specific bid management platforms to obtain opportunities and manage the entire bid process, including follow-up on awarded contracts.
- Complete a detailed scope, takeoff, and proposal for Commercial Projects through proposal form/estimating software.
- Communicate with trade partners and team members regarding new and current projects
- Prepare estimates and purchase orders in detail for all products
- Ensure timely completion of estimates
- Understand scope of work to bid
- Manage bid pricing from all vendors
- Prepare cost analysis
- Attend pre-bid meetings, walk projects with BDs and/or clients to determine a clear scope of work.
- Contract vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain hard bids and/or square footage pricing for each bid proposal.
- Responsible for bidding projects. This includes a complete review of plans, specifications, and project requirements. Apply all those requirements to the bidding process. Responsible for subcontractor coverage and on time submission of proposal.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors
- Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price.
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
Qualifications:
- 8 plus years in General Contractor experience in Estimating, Project Management or Project Engineering.
- Proven ability to read and understand construction plans, scope of work, and required specifications.
- Superb external and internal communication and customer service skills.
- Extremely detail oriented and organized.
- Highly motivated with a high degree of discipline, initiative, and ownership.
- Tech-savvy and proven success using and learning new CRM systems, city and general contractor bidding software.
