Construction Project Estimator

Job Summary:

The Chief Estimator is charge of estimating projects and controls construction costs by collecting and studying information; controlling construction costs.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare, review, seek, and evaluate bid opportunities
• Utilize specific bid management platforms to obtain opportunities and manage the entire bid process, including follow-up on awarded contracts.
• Complete a detailed scope, takeoff, and proposal for Commercial Projects through proposal form/estimating software.
• Communicate with trade partners and team members regarding new and current projects
• Prepare estimates and purchase orders in detail for all products
• Ensure timely completion of estimates
• Understand scope of work to bid
• Manage bid pricing from all vendors
• Prepare cost analysis
• Attend pre-bid meetings, walk projects with BDs and/or clients to determine a clear scope of work.
• Contract vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain hard bids and/or square footage pricing for each bid proposal.
• Responsible for bidding projects. This includes a complete review of plans, specifications, and project requirements. Apply all those requirements to the bidding process. Responsible for subcontractor coverage and on time submission of proposal.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors
• Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price.
• Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

Qualifications:

• 8 plus years in General Contractor experience in Estimating, Project Management or Project Engineering.
• Proven ability to read and understand construction plans, scope of work, and required specifications.
• Superb external and internal communication and customer service skills.
• Extremely detail oriented and organized.
• Highly motivated with a high degree of discipline, initiative, and ownership.
• Tech-savvy and proven success using and learning new CRM systems, city and general contractor bidding software.
