What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian/Maintenance position at Northshore Education Consortium?
Position Summary:
Keep the NEC buildings and grounds in such a state of operating excellence that it presents minimal problems or interruptions to the educational programs. The position will be assigned a location at 112 Sohier Road, Beverly or 248 Boston St, Topsfield but will also need to support other locations as required.
Responsibilities:
- Develop effective and positive relationships with staff and students through all daily verbal and/or written communications.
- On-Call - report and respond to emergency calls for maintenance/janitorial assistance.
- Custodial functions will include, but not be limited to:
- Kitchen & bathroom cleaning, floor cleaning and maintenance-both VCT & carpet, glass, and varied surface cleaning, filling of supply dispensers, and trash removal.
- Cleaning and disinfecting of horizontal and vertical surfaces in accordance with NEC’s standards.
- Clean and preserve designated spaces, equipment etc. throughout the building.
- Maintenance functions will include, but not be limited to:
o Performing daily building walkthroughs; identifying areas that need immediate attention.
o Complete routine repairs as scheduled with the Facilities Director.
o Resolve daily work order requests as directed by the Facilities Director.
o Ensure light bulbs are changed as needed.
o Work with the plowing contractor to ensure the parking lot and walkways are clear of snow and ice. Some hand shoveling and salting are required.
o Patch, compound, sand, and paint wall damage. o Work with outside vendors/contractors as needed
- During school vacations and summer vacations, perform heavy cleaning of buildings, floor refinishing, projects, and moves as directed by immediate supervisor or Director of Facilities.
- Set up or assist with the set up of needed equipment for meetings, seminars, and conferences within your building or other NEC locations as directed.
- Open/close building, secure alarm system(s), turn lights on/off, and perform building checks.
- Assist Program Director as requested with daily issues.
- Attend field-specific training and meetings as well as mandatory NEC events as directed by the immediate supervisor or Director of Facilities. (Training and meetings may be planned outside of the normal schedule)
Qualifications:
- A High School diploma is required.
- Knowledge/experience with light maintenance and light building repair is a plus.
- A minimum of (1) year of custodial or maintenance experience is a plus.
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable year-round transportation
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 11 am to 7 pm
