What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Technician position at Northside Animal Hospital?
Veterinary kennel technicians are responsible for the day-to-day care of all boarding and hospitalized animals. This includes feeding, walking, bathing, and monitoring the general well-being of dogs, cats, and occasionally, other companion animals. In addition, kennel technicians are also responsible for cleaning and maintaining the hospital premises on a day-to-day basis. As such, kennel technicians must have sufficient physical strength to lift and/or move heavy pets and objects, the confidence to administer medications, and the capacity to monitor pets for signs of distress or disease. It is essential that they have the ability and willingness to learn and the desire to provide gentle, compassionate care. Although kennel experience is not a prerequisite for this position, it is certainly advantageous. The general duties of a kennel technician consist of, but are not limited to the following:
- Exercising all boarding/hospitalized animals
- Providing food and water for all boarding/hospitalized animals
- Administering topical and oral medications
- Performing medicated baths and dips
- Trimming nails
- Clipping/shaving and removing matted hair
- Setting up and maintaining accurate records for all boarding/hospitalized animals
- Receiving boarding animals from their owners at drop-off
- Releasing boarding animals to their owners at pick-up
- Cleaning and disinfecting all treatment and kennel runs, suites, cages, tubs, floors and walls
- Scooping and sanitizing he exercise yards and front area
- Collecting and disposing of all hospital waste at the end of each shift
- Washing, drying, and folding all hospital blankets and towels
- Sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping all hospital floors and rugs
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $11.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 29 per week
