GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
This seasonal position performs a variety of routine and skilled maintenance, construction, custodial and repair activities involving parks and recreation buildings and grounds. Also performs general labor and other work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Parks & Facilities Supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: (These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.)
- Assist with maintenance and repair activities in parks, playgrounds, pavilions, ball fields, tennis courts, public restrooms and around public buildings and public lands.
- Operate trucks, utility vehicles and other park equipment and tools. Maintain vehicles and equipment.
- Perform all functions of opening and closing park bathrooms including, but not limited to: sweeping, washing, disinfecting, mopping floors, cleaning walls, ceilings, partitions and fixtures, and filling paper product dispensers.
- Move supplies, picnic tables and equipment as directed.
- Maintain and clean park restroom facilities and clean general park areas, shelters, and dog parks, play structures, tables, benches, boardwalks & painting.
- Tree trimming and removal (partial)
- Collect trash, separate and properly disposes of garbage and recyclable materials, pick up and properly disposes of litter.
- Weed and water planting/floral beds and assist with maintenance of park trails.
- Carry, load and unload materials and equipment, dig, shovel and rake grounds; clean work sites, sewers, drains and catch basins; weed trimming, landscaping duties, irrigation; perform other routine unskilled work as assigned.
- Initial set-up and ongoing field prep for athletic fields (baseball/softball, lacrosse & soccer)
- Assist with setup, tear-down and the operation of special events and functions.
- Perform related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- A high school diploma or equivalent; or any combination of experience and training, which will provide the minimum qualifications.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Must be available to work weekend and evening shifts.
- Desired basic knowledge of plumbing, building maintenance, park maintenance, and janitorial functions.
- Must possess a current, valid Michigan Driver’s license with a driving history that does not create liability concerns: i.e. Convictions or reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.
- Ability to critically assess situations, solve problems, and work independently with minimal supervision.

In order to properly perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to: stand, walk, stoop and kneel. The employee is occasionally required to climb and/or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects of moderate to heavy weight.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in an outdoor setting. The noise level in the work environment will vary.
