Job Description

Adjunct (part-time) instructors are hired on an as-needed, term-by-term (or per course) basis. By applying for this position, you will be joining the part-time instructional pool for consideration as a prospective adjunct instructor.

College Success (SLS1101) Adjunct Faculty have an essential responsibility for the academic development and success of first-year students to Northwest Florida State College. College Success (SLS1101) is a 3-credit hour elective course designed to prepare students for collegiate expectations. The course will help students build a strong academic foundation through continual development of study skills, time management and stress management strategies, along with purposeful goal setting, directed motivation, career and program exploration, critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills for future career readiness and attainment.

  • Provide online / classroom instruction.
  • Fulfill contractual obligations during the term.
  • Attend planning / training meetings in-person / zoom with Associate Director of College Success before and during each semester.
  • Conduct each class according to the approved syllabus, hold required office hours and respond to student emails within 24 hours.
  • Utilize the approved textbook and / or other instructional materials as approved.
  • Be fully prepared and on time.
  • Utilize the LMS following all college policies and procedures.
  • Submit attendance confirmation per college policies and procedures, as applicable to assignment.
  • Maintain course grades in the LMS and submit grades at the applicable times, as applicable to assignment.
  • Support students by engaging them in class, answering questions in a timely manner, and referring them for additional support when necessary.
  • Be familiar with and abide by college policies.
  • Treat students and colleagues with respect and understanding of differences.
  • Assist in development of curriculum as appropriate.
  • Complete annual mandatory compliance training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of College Success / AVP Academic Affairs

Requirements :

  • Master's degree (or higher) in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Higher Education, or a master's, specialist or doctoral degree in any field coupled with proven teaching experience.
  • Academic background or professional experience in higher education demonstrating service in the capacity of students.
  • Demonstrated evidence of professional growth through participation in continuing education and other related activities.
  • Proficiency with teaching technologies, including lecture-capture software, such as Camtasia or Kaltura, and familiarity with web-conferencing software to facilitate synchronous online student support.
  • Experience in student engagement techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with technology-based instruction preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution.
