Primary Purpose:

Complete in-house construction and renovations in a timely and efficient manner in order to maintain the

physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made

at all times. Maintain district structures and complete projects in an attractive and safe manner.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas driver’s license (Meets eligibility requirements to drive a district vehicle)
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and diagrams
  • Ability to estimate materials
  • Ability to plan & phase work with other trades.
  • Ability to install Acoustical Drop In grids & ceilings.
  • Ability to install metal stud walls, steel door & window frames, & drywall.
  • Ability to install vinyl tile, ceramic tile, carpet, and trim.
  • Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications, codes, and ADA guidelines.
  • Minimum of ten years of successful experience in commercial construction and remodeling.

 

Major Responsibilities & Duties:

  1. Maintenance and Repair:
  2. Plan and complete construction of cabinets, shelves, and partitions from initial layout to assembly using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders.
  3. Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
  1. Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, plastic laminate, etc.
  2. Construct and repair outdoor equipment including playground equipment, fences, gates, bleachers, etc.
  3. Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection procedures.
  4. Replace, repair, and finish furniture, cabinets, fixtures, woodwork, etc.
  5. Assist with the installation and moving of portable buildings, including constructing steps, installing underpinning, etc.
  6. Receive and complete work orders.
  7. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  8. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  9. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and remove scraps and lumber as needed.
  10. Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
  11. Demonstrate acceptable work habits including teamwork, initiative and dependability.
  12. Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  13. Construct ramps & landings for modular classroom buildings per code & ADA guidelines.

 

Safety:

  1. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  2. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  3. Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  4. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  5. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  6. Report to work on time each day, at designated time.
  7. Follow instructions and directions.

Special Conditions:

Northwest Independent School District has a critical need for some renovations to be done in a time frame that does not interfere with classes or administrative offices. There will be temporary changes in work hours or workdays to accomplish this. This position requires flexible hours and days as required.

These changes will be on an as needed basis to be determined by the Director of Maintenance.
