What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head of Carpentry Department position at Northwest Independent School District?
Primary Purpose:
Supervise daily activities of Carpentry Department employees to ensure safe and effective maintenance of all school district facilities with as little interruption to the education process as possible.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of five years’ experience in commercial carpentry, construction & remodel
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret drawings
- Ability to estimate materials from prints and shop drawings
- Ability to operate hand tools and power tools safely
- Ability to operate computer
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of power tool safety rules
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Demonstrated proficiency in leading, directing, and supervising employees
- Driving record that meets the requirements of the district’s insurance carrier
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Support the viewpoints and philosophies of Northwest ISD.
- Demonstrate acceptable work habits including regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability, and promptness.
- Report to work on time every day.
- Oversee all carpentry repairs, maintenance, and renovations.
- Oversee all wall repairs, painting, and athletic field striping.
- Oversee all welding repairs and projects.
- Oversee all concrete construction, repairs and replacement.
- Oversee all door, lock, and hardware repairs/replacements.
- Evaluate, prioritize, and process work request in a timely manner.
- Instruct maintenance workers on proper methods of procedure and proper use and care of hand tool, equipment, hardware, and materials
- Estimate costs of projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead.
- Examine district-owned facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventive maintenance.
- Respond to NISD Emergency calls on an as needed basis. This will include after hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as needed basis.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Delegate task and projects to department carpenters
Oversee remodeling projects throughout the district
Ensure proper maintenance and repairs are being completed throughout the district

Personal computer, ladder, scaffolding, lifts, forklift, hand tools, power tools, shop tools, tractors, loaders, skid steer, and water extractors
