Primary Purpose:
Provide leadership and coordination to provide an aligned and articulated instructional program for the programs offered at the NISD Outdoor Learning Center and expertise in curriculum design and delivery, staff development, instructional resource selection and teaching models, for grades K-12.
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Three years teaching experience
- Content specialty in assigned core area
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Public speaking
- Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
- Ability to develop and deliver training to both adult and students
- Ability to interpret data
- Excellent writing skills
- Familiarity with meteorology, geology, epidemiology, kinesiology and ecology
- Experience with outdoors, including hiking, or leading groups
- Technology experience
- CPR and first aid certification preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Articulate the district’s mission, philosophy, and implementation strategies to the community and solicit support in the realization of the goals as they pertain to curriculum alignment and instructional delivery.
- Serve as a facilitator in coordinating the district curriculum in accordance with the district goals.
- In collaboration with science coordinators, facilitate the coordination of a PreK-12 vertical curriculum alignment for the district science program using teacher feedback as well as appropriate data.
- Work in collaboration with curriculum coordinators to develop an implementation plan for curriculum delivery.
- Plan, facilitate, present evaluate, and follow-up training in a manner that supports the aligned curriculum.
- Research, create, promote, schedule, and present a variety of educational programs.
- Have the ability to creatively communicate through public speaking and/or writing scientific and mathematic information to audiences of all ages.
- Support a strong partnership with local businesses and industry partners.
- Maintain an inventory of all capital expenditures associated with the Outdoor Learning Center
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Curriculum and Staff Development and the Executive Directors of Instruction and Campus Support in the selection of appropriate instructional resources at the campus and district levels.
- Assist teachers in refining appropriate delivery strategies based upon research of best practices.
- Collaborate with the Coordinator of Instructional Technology to ensure the effective use of technology at the Outdoor Learning Center.
- Keep current with best practices in content or program.
- Attend specified meetings when requested.
- Serve on district committees as assigned.
- Prepare reports to assist the Executive Director for Curriculum & Staff Development in evaluating the effectiveness of the Outdoor Learning Center.
- Work collaboratively with other district department specialists to assure cooperative communication between and among departments.
- Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing and supervising the instructional programs in the assigned subject area.
- Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national level in the area assigned.
- Assist in communicating information to parent and community members about the Outdoor Learning Center.

Working Conditions:
Applicant must be able to work outdoors in all climates. Position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, pushing, and overhead reaching. Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours. Frequent district wide travel. Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds to waist height.
