What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cabinet Shop Assistant position at Northwest Mississippi Community College?
The Cabinet Shop Assistant position is a 12-month staff position responsible to assist the lead cabinet maker in moving and staging supplies, preparing materials for fabrication, routine finishing and repair, and casework installations. Other duties and responsibilities include but are not limited an assistant fabricator and installer in the Custom Cabinet Shop located on the Senatobia Campus. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Physical Plant in the Department of Construction and Maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to read, interpret, and follow millwork drawings and material safety data sheets and follow verbal instructions related to construction
- Must have basic knowledge of raw materials, shop safety, wood working equipment
- Must be able to lift 75 pounds, climb and work from ladders for component assembly and installation
- Preferred experience in construction or maintenance related field
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Lead Cabinet Maker with furniture and casework fabrication, finishing, installation, and repair.
- Assist Lead Cabinet Maker with measuring for casework planning and installation.
- Assist Lead Cabinet Maker with casework installation. Installations may require work from scaffolds, ladder or lift.
- Perform as a backup maintenance assistance in other trades related to Building Maintenance.
- Perform as backup to Moving and Events crew when needed.
- Any and all other duties as assigned by Director and Assistant Director of Construction and Maintenance.

- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
- Must be and retain knowledge of employees' policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate oral and written communication skills to interact with a wide range of diverse individuals.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to do the following:

- Communicate with others in person
- Use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
- Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel
- Lift and/or move items up to 75 pounds
